The orientation walk is designed to help guests plan their visit.  Guides share the latest information on programming, dining and shopping options.  Guests get an overview of the 18th century community and learn about the restoration of Williamsburg.  The experience lasts approximately 30 minutes.

Included in all Historic Area or Museum admission passes.  Tours depart every 10-15 minutes.

Women's History Month

Colonial Williamsburg celebrates the contributions of women of the eighteenth century to the history of our nation with programs throughout the month of March.  Scenes, tours, programs and special presentations explore the various roles that our foremothers filled in birthing a new nation.

 

Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum

See an extensive collection of American and British antiques. See furniture, metals, ceramics, glass, paintings, prints, firearms, and textiles from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries and the Public Hospital of 1773. Attend lectures and musical performances in the Hennage Auditorium. Visit the Museum Store and the Museum Café.

DeWitt Wallace Museum

Enjoy changing exhibitions of American folk art, the colonial and contemporary artists and craftspeople who work outside the mainstream of academic art to record aspects of everyday life. Politics and the Punchbowl

Explore one of the most important hostels, social clubs and communication centers in 1770s Williamsburg.  A broad cross section of the society - black, white, free, enslaved, rich and poor - all came together here during the period of the Revolution.  From meals to lodging to the popular Apollo Room - come in and experience the story of Virginia's people at the place where they danced, dined, played and plotted - the tavern where the Revolution began!

Revolutionary City: Citizens at War, 1776 - 1781

Between 1776 and 1781 people in Williamsburg faced awesome challenges as they created a new self-governing society against the backdrop of war.  The Revolutionary City recreates critical moments that relive Williamsburg's role in the American Revolution and the War for Independence. 

Come take part in these events and the everyday life of the city against the backdrop of momentous, world-changing historic events.  Meet famous patriots like Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and Patrick Henry, and lesser known people such as Barbry Hoy, a poor woman whose husband became a prisoner of war; enslaved African Americans like Kate, Hannah and Marcus who debate whether to escape to the British, and a Baptist preacher named Gowan who talks about his hopes for the future where all citizens are equal.

Meet the men and women – rich and poor, great and humble, free and enslaved – who live through these extraordinary times and create our nation.

Guests are free to come and go through the course of this two-hour event.

Set in Los Angeles in 1962 at the height of the Cuban missile crisis, it tells the story of British college professor George Falconer (Colin Firth) who struggles to find meaning in his life after the death of his longtime partner. Throughout the single day depicted in the film, George dwells on his past and his empty future as he plans to commit suicide that evening.

A romantic tale of love-interrupted and isolation, the film ultimately reveals the importance of the seemingly insignificant moments in life. Colin Firth received the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the 2009 Venice Film Festival. Academy Award nomination for Best Actor (Colin Firth). Mar. 15–20, 22–23 screening room. 100 mins.

Come celebrate an evening of 18th-century music with Williamsburg’s premier musician, Peter Pelham.  Mr. Pelham was the 18th Century organist of Bruton Parish Church, and keeper of the Public Gaol.  You will hear selections that were popular here in Williamsburg, as well as an original composition by Peter Pelham. 

In addition to sparkling music, there will be observations of local personalities and opportunity for conversation.  Visitors gather at the Capitol for an evening of 18th Century music.  This program is staged in the 18th Century fashion with visitors sitting on benches; the room is candlelit, and no amplification is used.

Additional Ticket Required. Adult tickets $12, children under 6 - $6.

When the sun goes down, Williamsburg has a haunted history to tell. During this one hour Colonial Williamsburg walking tour, you will enter the sites and meet ghostly inhabitants and those who have lived to tell of their supernatural experiences.
